Texas: State Poised to Require Photo ID From Voters

The State House on Monday sent Gov. Rick Perry a bill that would require Texas voters to show photo identification before casting a ballot. The governor, a Republican, has called the bill an emergency item for the legislative session. His signature will give Republicans a major victory in a bitter partisan debate that has raged for years. Republicans say photo identification is needed to prevent fraud. Democrats say it will make it harder for poor and minority Texans to vote and is designed to increase Republicans margins in elections.

A bill that would require Texas voters to show photo identification before casting a ballot would create a better voting process for various reasons. This would prevent double voting, illegal citizens casting their vote, and fraud. With Texas being so close to the Mexican boarder, they are prone to illegal immigrants. Photo identification would help lower the possibility of fraud from illegal citizens.

The necessity of an identification for voters is paramount in preventing voter fraud. Photo Identification should be necessary to vote, in order to allow the poor and minorities to afford the Identification we would provide qualifying people with a free identification card, that is if we gain power.

The WOP fully supports this bill. As stated in our party platform, all people must be at least 18 years of age to be able to vote. By requiring the voters to show a photo identification card, it prevents voter corruption in the electoral process. Also, in the WOP party platform, we also have stated that state legislatures have the jurisdiction to create limits and other regualtions concerning voting in certian states. Because of this, all states will have different limits and laws.

The Metamorphic Party's agreement is with the proposed bill, requiring Texas voters to show photo identification before voting. We believe this bill will limit the amount of fraud that is currently occuring and will ensure that a single voter cannot vote twice. Forget the rest, get with the best. We are the change!
