Letter to the Editor

Franklin Times
Letter to the Editor

The global economic meltdown has hit us all. Economies here at home and across the globe are faltering and shrinking. There can be no doubt that our economy, like that of our neighbors, is headed in the wrong direction.

Time can be spent pointing fingers later, but now we must no longer ignore an issue that has for too long been neglected. Since the absolute monarch fell four years ago we have witnessed a great democratic transition. Yet, we have also seen three consecutive democratically elected governments fail to address the issues facing education today.

Through three election cycles parties have promised veiled promises wrapped in empty rhetoric on the education issue. Furthermore, in the past three governments little effort has been made to confront the problems facing our nation's educational system.

Now with our nation facing a crippling economic contraction, the fear has grown that education will once again move to the back-burner. I assert that this would be a fatal mistake. The road out of our economic crisis and the foundation of any long-term recovery rests in the creation and promotion of a sound educational system.

The economy of fifty years ago no longer exists. Our world is more interconnected then ever before, and as a result we must adjust. To be competitive in this new global environment an educated work force is a necessity.

The need for help will also become more acute if this crisis continues. As tax revenue falls, funding for public services (like education) will surely fall too; as states are forced to cut back. The future government must not let this happen. To cut funding in education is to sacrifice the future opportunities for our children.

The members I represent are looking for real solutions and answers as to how the educational system will be run by future governments. We are looking for honest and clear policies and look forward to seeing them in the coming days.

The Wise Ole Party (WOP) would like to assure all people that education will not be on the so-called, “back burner”. We view education as a very important issue of everyday life, for technology is growing and becoming more and more complex every day. The WOP has made a very strong educational plan that not only helps all primary educations facilities but also helps those people that want to further their education by attending a public college or university. We have apportioned money to give to all states for their public schools, and private schools will also be receiving funds the central government as well. For those who wish to further their education, we also have money set aside for financial aid and grants that will be given away. Even though we are taking control of the situation, we have left some discretion to the state governments as well. The state governments will have the authority to set its own standards for all public and private primary education facilities with some limits from the central government. Once again, the WOP would like to assure all Franklin citizens that education is not something to take for granted and we intend on fixing the current educational system.

The Metamorphic Party plans to change the nations educational system and no longer neglect it like the past three governments have. We understand our current economic situation and that is one of the reasons why the Metamorphic Party is here to bring change, the change needed in the government to meet the standards that we should be at. Citizens understand the current economic stage we are at as well and that is why they wish to have change. One of our first priorities would be to reverse the the educational situation the Franklin States of America is currently facing. The MP wants to further educational opportunities in the individual states. We believe that more money and higher standards should be put into schools, we also believe that public schools should be run by state governments but regulations should be set by the national government so all schools will have the same and equal chances. The MP believes education should always be a top priority and we will do whatever it takes to accomplish our goal of furthering and increasing our education levels in FSA. Forget the rest, get with the best. We are the change!
