Economic slowdowns naturally lead to fiscal problems. Governments are continually forced to cut back spending in many areas and now it looks like our neighbor to the south is confronting this very issue. Yet, the conversation goes beyond simply addressing the growth trends in entitlement and social programs. The Defense Secretary and Pentagon are also confronting possible trimming in their own budgets.
As our nation confronts mounting debt levels we may find ourselves asking similar questions.

The FAP believes that military spending is a necessity and cannot be easily cut. The debate over weapons or people should be decided based on the facts. The article says that most soldiers are happy with their pay, so we see no reason to increase or decrease their pay. Military weapons are essential to the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but any weapon, like the F-22 fighter pilot, that will not give the U.S. a major advantage should be put on hold. If the Pentagon asks for a certain amount of money, in a time of economic crisis, why give them more then they need? The FAP believes Congress should meet the demands of the Pentagon, but do not give them too much money which will harm them in the long run. Military operations are essential to bring peace among nations, without them, terrorist groups could threaten the very foundation of our democracy.
While the LAP wish to remain neutral in war, we do not ignore the necessity of defense spending. We should increase security and ensure the maximum amount of protection for the people of the Franklin States of America. We still believe that terrorism is an issue, and can be decreased with efficient security. A safe, comfortable nation ensures trust and confidence in the government.
